Like its software, Ubuntu’s set of default wallpapers is also a community effort. Before each release, there’s a little competition where photographers can submit images. As both an avid Ubuntu user and an enthusiast photographer, I decided to enter two images into the most recent “Free Culture Showcase“.

I’m happy to report that my “Crokus” image (taken near my home) made it into the new Ubuntu, and is currently shipping with the 18.04 LTS release. Since this is a “Long term Support” version, people should be able to select this image as their desktop wallpaper for the next five years.
Congratulation to the other winners, and may the next release come with even better images.
